Dr. Victoria Gardner, aka Dr. Vickie
Singer - Songwriter -  Musician - Composer/Arranger
America’s Singing Version of Susan Boyle

  Dr. Vickie

Dr. Vickie’s first public performance as a vocalist was shortly after her third birthday when she sang three solos at a Christmas program. Throughout her childhood, she sang and played the piano at all kinds of family, school, church, and community functions. She began singing in her church choir at 11, and performed in numerous choral groups throughout high school and college. She also played drums and percussion in her high school band. She began her professional career at 19 as a vocalist and percussionist with big bands and jazz groups.

She later formed three bands of her own – a jazz group, a country band, and a variety show group. In addition to playing engagements in jazz clubs, nightclubs, and hotel circuits throughout the Midwest and the West Coast, her bands worked private parties, business functions, and weddings at yacht clubs, country clubs, golf clubs, hotels, and convention centers. She has always been known for her creative and dynamic connection with her audiences.

Music and Health Challenges

“One of my favorite sayings is, ‘Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.’ All my life, music has healed and empowered me,” explains Dr. Vickie. “It’s the way I’ve been able to keep my mind, body, and soul balanced and uplifted, even in the worst of times.” Few people get hit by an eighteen-wheel semi truck and live to tell about it. Amazingly, Dr. Vickie survived two separate accidents caused by tired truckers, in 1987 and 1994. Today, the numerous injuries, disabilities and health problems caused by those traumas still make life very challenging for her.

Dr. Vickie has a Fibromyalgia that severely disrupts her sleep and limits her energy, plus pain and injuries that limit her walking, standing and sitting for any length of time. She often wears an ankle brace and/or a back brace, and needs a scooter for mobility.

“Music helps me deal with the pain, insomnia, and fatigue much more effectively than any of the medications the doctors prescribe. It has helped me recover my soul, as well as much of my physical strength and mobility,” says Dr. Vickie.

But her physical disabilities have not stopped her from writing her own songs, composing/arranging the music and performing her songs at various venues. She also participates in numerous charitable causes including advocacy for people with disabilities, homelessness prevention, working with gifted children, and advocating clean water and healthy food projects. She is active in the Northern Colorado Chapter of the United Nations Association. In Fort Collins, Colorado, she annually coordinates the International Hour For Peace, a global event occurring each December 31st in which millions of people world-wide focus on creating world peace and inner peace for the New Year.

Although in most of her songs she has written both the lyrics and the music, she also enjoys collaborating with other artists. In addition to singing lead and harmony vocals, she plays acoustic piano, electric piano, organ, keyboard bass, keyboard strings, drums, and percussion.

Along with arranging and performing her approximately one hundred original songs, Dr. Vickie has a repertoire of thousands of songs including jazz standards, rock, pop, country, gospel, and contemporary Christian rock. Although she prefers performing with a backup band, she’s also comfortable as a soloist, with just her voice and keyboard.

“People tell me they like the emotional depth and complexity of my music,” notes Dr. Vickie. “They enjoy the fact that one song can contain many different ideas and emotions, even conflicting ones, all at the same time. Many of my songs contain musical jokes or surprises, and I love the look on people’s faces when they get the joke.”

“Through all of my life’s crises, tragedies and suffering, both personal and professional, what kept me going through the years was my faith in God, my gift of music, and my sense of humor,” Dr. Vickie explains. “The inspiration for the songs I write is definitely from God. I certainly couldn’t do it by myself. Often, it feels like the songs have a life of their own, as though they’re just waiting for someone to catch them and put them on paper. I’m sometimes blessed to be that someone.”

Dr. Vickie has a B.A. in Education with majors in Psychology, Sociology and Music; a Masters in Counseling, and a Doctorate of Religious Studies (Rs.D.) in Spiritual Psychology and Wholistic Healing. A part-time interfaith chaplain and music minister, she also writes all types of music, not limiting herself to one genre or musical style.

She is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association and the Gospel Music Association (GMA).

Dr. Vickie was a finalist in the 2012 Gospel Music Association songwriting contest. In 2013, she received the CWIMA (Christian Women In Media Association) award for Best Children’s Song.

She is passionate about sharing her education, her experience, her faith, and her music with people all over the world.

 New Artist
Dr. Vickie to Be Represented At MIDEM

Singer-Songwriter to be Introduced at
Major Music Industry Event

America's Singing Version of Susan Boyle

NASHVILLE, TN — On The Beat Productions LLC has announced that songs written and recorded by Dr. Victoria Gardner, who is known professionally as “Dr. Vickie,” will be represented by their company at MIDEM 2012.

“MIDEM is the world's largest music industry trade fair and it’s exciting for one of the acts I work with to get that kind of international exposure,” explains David Balsiger, CEO of Balsiger Media Enterprises, who manages Dr. Vickie.

Ron Hebert, a partner in On The Beat Productions, describes Dr. Vickie's music with great enthusiasm. “Her children's songs creatively combine a life lesson with entertainment. We’ve observed that kids love singing along and doing hand and body movements to accompany the words and music.”

When discussing Dr. Vickie’s original faith, inspirational, and love songs, the president of On The Beat Productions, Doug Riley adds, “We’ve seen that her music can make adults laugh, cry, reflect, and sigh. She's one of the most versatile artists we’ve ever signed: a singer, writer, arranger, keyboardist, and percussionist who stirs people's emotions to experience life more fully, deeply, and intensely.”

A Musician’s Life

Dr. Vickie’s first public performance as a vocalist was shortly after her third birthday when she sang three solos at a Christmas program. Throughout her childhood, she sang and played the piano at all kinds of family, school, and community functions. She began her professional career at eighteen as a vocalist with big bands and jazz groups.

She later formed three bands of her own – a jazz group, a country band, and a variety show group. In addition to playing engagements in jazz clubs, nightclubs, and hotel circuits throughout the Midwest and the West Coast, her bands worked private parties at yacht clubs, country clubs, golf clubs, and conventions, as well as business functions and weddings. However, until now she has never pursued a recording contract.

Music and Health Challenges

“One of my favorite sayings is, ‘Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.’ All my life, music has healed and empowered me,” explains Dr. Vickie. “It’s the way I’ve been able to keep my mind, body, and soul balanced and uplifted, even in the worst of times.”

Few people are involved in an auto versus eighteen-wheeler accident and live to tell about it. Amazingly, Dr. Vickie survived two separate crashes with eighteen-wheelers, in 1987 and 1994. Today, the numerous injuries, disabilities and health problems caused by those traumas still make life very challenging for her.

“Music helped me deal with the excruciating pain much more effectively than any of the medications the doctors prescribed. It helped me recover my soul, as well as much of my physical strength and mobility,” says Dr. Vickie.

Dr. Vickie adds, “In the words of the Doobie Brothers, ‘music is the doctor of my soul’. I also like eighteenth century philosopher Voltaire’s writing that says, ‘La musique est la voie vers le cœur’ (music is the pathway to the heart).”

Humanitarian Work

In addition to her music, Dr. Vickie champions and participates in a number of charitable causes including advocacy work for people with disabilities, homelessness prevention, working with gifted kids, and advocating clean water and healthy food projects. She also gives professional workshops/seminars on more than 30 topics including “Helping Kids Cope with Peer Pressure,” “Spirituality in Medicine, Health and Illness,” and “Music as a Therapeutic Tool.” She coordinates the annual Ft. Collins, Colorado, observance of the International Hour for Peace, a global event occurring each December 31st in which millions of people world-wide focus on creating world peace and inner peace for the New Year.

Dr. Vickie has a BA in Education with majors in Psychology, Sociology and Music; a Masters in Counseling, and a doctorate in Spiritual Psychology and Wholistic Healing. A part-time interfaith chaplain and music minister, she also writes all types of music, not limiting herself to one genre or musical style.

Children’s Songs

“Children’s songs are especially fun to write,” explains Dr. Vickie. “Children get so excited about music and put their whole selves into it . . . hands, feet, and bobbing heads.”

Her children’s songs are designed to teach kids a simple lesson as well as give them a fun-filled experience. “Kids learn well through music and are much more likely to remember a concept when it’s part of a song,” Dr. Vickie contends.

For example, the song “Just Write on the Paper” discourages small children from writing on walls, doors, floors, and anything else that doesn’t move.

Other clever kids’ songs written and performed by Dr. Vickie include The Belly Button Song, Easter Eggs, and Noah’s Ark Song.

Songs of Faith

“Through all of my life’s crises, tragedies and suffering, both personal and professional, what kept me going through the years was my faith in God, my gift of music, and my sense of humor,” Dr. Vickie explains. “The inspiration for the songs I write is definitely from God. I certainly couldn’t do it by myself. Often, it feels like the songs have a life of their own, as though they’re just waiting for someone to catch them and put them on paper. I’m sometimes blessed to be that someone.”

Dr. Vickie’s popular multi-faith focused songs include One God, Many Paths, Faith of a Mustard Seed, Preacher’s Kid, God Is the Source, (W)Hole in My Soul, A Common Word, and Alaska Native Prayer Song, which she wrote while living in Alaska.

Love Songs and Potpourri

“People tell me they like the emotional depth and complexity of my music,” notes Dr. Vickie. “They enjoy the fact that one song can contain many different ideas and emotions, even conflicting ones, all at the same time. Many of my songs contain musical jokes or surprises, and I love the look on people’s faces when they get the joke.”

Her often requested love songs include A City Boy in Love with a Country Girl, Dirty Looks and Dirty Water, See Me As Beautiful, Love Me Today for Tomorrow I Will Leave You, My Man Don’t Need No Drug, Don’t Dance So Fast, and Best Day of Your Life.

In addition to her approximately one hundred original songs, Dr. Vickie has a repertoire of thousands of songs including jazz standards, rock, pop, country, gospel, and contemporary Christian rock. Although she prefers performing with a backup band, she’s also comfortable as a soloist, with just her voice and keyboard.

I first met Victoria when we were both in the 8th grade. All through high school, we participated in many musical activities together, and her beautiful alto voice was a large part of our school’s successful chorus, girls’ trio and mixed quartet. What many people probably don’t know (and she might not admit) is that she was also an excellent percussionist in our school band, which was always “superior rated”. Now, many years later, I enjoy listening to the beautiful music she has created. I hope to continue to enjoy her work for many more years.—Scott Emmet, Scotia, NE
